Sony XDRC705DAB Clock Radio review
October 31, 2008 by Our Radio Alarm Clock Correspondent · Leave a Comment
If you are looking for a great clock radio from a good brand then you’ll love the Sony XDRC705DAB Clock Radio. This clock has great sound and is extremely good-looking (in case you worry about that sort of thing). The big and bright display makes it easy to read, and there are settings to reduce the brightness so it doesn’t bother you at night. The ability to set 20 preset stations is quite handy and means that you’ll never have to spend time scrolling through the dial to find your station.
There is one small problem, that doesn’t seem to affect all models but has been reported a few times by different customers. It would appear that on a few models there is a glitch where the clock’s alarm goes off at midnight every few days. Again, it hasn’t affected all of the models, so if you like this clock you should definitely get it. Within a few days you will know if it is functioning correctly, and you can take it back if it’s faulty.
All in all the Sony XDRC705DAB Clock Radio is a great clock, with fabulous sound from the front-mounted speaker. The clock looks great in any bedroom with its sleek and understated styling. The multiple station presets and alarm settings come in very handy, and the big display means that you can read it easily, even in the middle of the night. This is a great clock and well worth the price tag it comes with.

Talking Dalek Alarm Clock review
October 29, 2008 by SleepyBob · Leave a Comment
Another alarm clock that doesn’t strictly fit into the “radio alarm clock” bracket, but it proved so popular with our team of testers that we had to give it a mention.
Firstly, we need to mention a couple of small flaws with this alarm clock – the first of those is the clock. It is smaller than on most standard radio alarm clocks, and isn’t particularly easy to see. Also, it requires 4 x AA batteries, which unhelpfully, are not included.
So, onto the upsides, and the biggest plus – it looks like a Dalek! What better way to wake up for a Doctor Who fan than to be “Exterminated!” When the alarm goes off, the head and laser light up and it bellows out one of three catchphrases:
“Exterminate!”
“You would make a good Dalek”
and “You are an enemy of the Daleks, you must be destroyed!”
All in all, this is one for the Doctor Who fans. Not the most functional, but great fun.

Shape Up Alarm Clock review
October 27, 2008 by Our Radio Alarm Clock Correspondent · Leave a Comment
This is just a cool idea. The Shape Up Alarm Clock takes fitness to a whole new level, by making you do bicep curls first thing in the morning just to turn off the alarm! If you’ve been putting off getting into shape you will have no excuse with this alarm clock. Nothing gets us up and awake like forced exercise does it? In case you really can’t handle 30 reps on a particular morning there is a regular alarm off function, but that’s no fun is it? If you are buying this alarm clock form someone else then don’t tell them that.
Whether you are a muscle mania and would love the opportunity to start your morning by pumping iron, or you want some encouragement to keep to your exercise routine this cool clock will have your blood flowing in no time. Don’t worry about the weight, it’s pretty light, but you will still feel more awake when you are finished lifting it 30 times to turn off the alarm. By the way, this probably isn’t the best clock to have if you wake up before your spouse does or he/she may throw it at you.
So if you need some help with those scrawny pipes of yours, or you want to irritate a friends with a clock that makes them wake up to a workout, the Shape Up Alarm Clock is perfect. For the price you could by a few and give them to all your friends, or maybe not.

Pure TEMPUS 1XT DAB Radio Alarm Clock review
October 25, 2008 by Our Radio Alarm Clock Correspondent · Leave a Comment
Anyone who likes to keep a touch of the ‘good ‘ol days’ around will love this retro-styled clock that is funky and old-fashioned, yet stocked with all the features of a regular alarm clock. The Pure TEMPUS-1XT DAB Radio with Clock / Alarm definitely does a good job of combining the new with the old with its wood exterior and touch sensitive snooze handle.
The alarm clock features are definitely modern, with 3 presets that you can set for weekdays, weekends or just Saturday or Sunday. The clock comes with a USB adaptor so you can hook it up to your computer and download free product updates when they become available, and you can set the snooze timer for up to 59 minutes if you like to have a nice morning sleep-in. The sleep timer lets you fall asleep listening to your favourite radio station, and this radio is able to pick up analogue and DAB signals so you will never miss out. The extendible antenna means you get even better reception than a standard wire-antenna radio.
While some may think that the price is a bit steep for a clock radio, if your house is full of retro things then the extra money is worth it to have a clock radio that fits in with your décor. You will never find that the Pure TEMPUS-1XT DAB Radio with Clock / Alarm is lacking in features, and others who come to your home are certain to admire it.

PHILIPS HF3461/01 Natural Light Dawn Simulator review

We all know that Philips make great products, and the PHILIPS HF3461/01 Natural Light Dawn Simulator is no exception. This quality, stylish clock and lamp combo lets the user wake up to increasing light, simulating a sunrise. For those who have problems waking, or feel a bit down when winter comes, this clock will help you wake up more refreshed and relaxed, and the natural light will banish those rainy day blues. Increasing the amount of natural light you get in a day is also beneficial for those with stress or depression.
For those heavy sleepers there are 3 great nature sounds to choose from that will slowly increase in volume as the clock gets closer to its set alarm time, letting you wake up slowly and gently. There is also a digital FM tuner in case you wish to wake up to your favourite radio station instead.
The PHILIPS HF3461/01 Natural Light Dawn Simulator is stylish and portable, so you can take it with you on trips or holidays to keep your body in its natural rhythm. Use the lamp to read by at night to increase your exposure to natural light, which helps the body feel better. Probably the only downside to this unit is that the alarm clock with lamp function is not programmable to 30 minutes, so if you like a shorter or longer wake up time then you may want to consider another model. Other than that this clock is perfect for those who want more light in their lives.
